The newly-appointed first Vice Chancellor of Madhabdev University at Lakhimpur’s Narayanpur, Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka was given a rousing welcome by the fraternity of Madhabdev College (now university) on Monday when he arrived to assume his office.
Eminent academician and head of the department of Chemistry, Gauhati University, Prof. D.C. Deka was appointed as the VC of Madahabdev University recently as Madhabdev College has been elevated to a university by the state government.

A public reception was organised on the occasion at the auditorium of Madhabdev College where Prof. Deka was formally welcomed as the first VC of the newly-founded university.

Prof. Deka was felicitated by the college staff, students’ union, alumni association and the guardians’ union of Madhabdev College and 80 different organizations.

The principal of Madhabdev College, Dr. Sarat Hazarika, who has become the registrar-in-charge of the new university; the president of last governing body of Madhabdev College Rajendra Nath Sabhapandit; Bihpuria MLA Debananda Hazarika and former education minister Premadhar Bora were present in the public reception programme for the Vice Chancellor.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Deka said he has been assigned a heavy responsibility by the Assam Governor who is the chancellor of the university.
He said the prime objective of the newly-founded university is to eradicate social disparity by providing quality education and institutionalise the philosophy and values of Mahapurush Madhabdev.
Prof. Deka urged all the students, parents and public to extend all kind of help and cooperation by reflecting on the perspective, spirit and mission of the newly-founded university.
He also solicited advices and suggestions from the public for the progress and promotion of the university.
Earlier, Prof. Deka was received by Madhabdev College representatives and Lakhimpur AASU on Monday morning at Lilabari Airport as he arrived at North Lakhimpur from Guwahati. From there he was escorted to Narayanpur by the organizers.
