The Bodoland University Vice Chancellor, Dr Hemanta Kumar Baruah himself has sought investigations into the allegations levelled against him.

The VC has dashed off a letter to the Chancellor of the University and Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi requesting him to make arrangement for a probe into the allegations of corruption and misrule in the university.

It may be mentioned that bringing charges of corruptions and misrule, an Assamese daily newspaper has published a series of news reports against the University VC, Baruah. After that, the VC of the Kokrajhar-based Bodoland University has submitted a letter to the State Governor seeking formation of a vigilance committee to probe into the allegations levelled against him.

Talking to Northeast Now in this regard, Dr Baruah on Wednesday said, “A particular Assamese daily has brought allegations of corruptions against me without any basis which has hurt me. They continue to publish such news reports only to stain in my career. Finally, feeling mentally disturbed I decided to send this letter.”

He also informed that he is ready to produce report if the State Government would seek the same regarding the allegations.

But before the Government seeking any report, he himself has sought an investigation into the allegations leveled against him.

The VC has sought investigations by the vigilance committee into allegations since the beginning.

Regarding misuse of funds in construction works of the university, the VC said, to look into the construction works of the university there is a tender committee, but he is even not a member of that committee. SO, so he ruled out his role in any financial irregularities.

On the other hand, regarding degradation of the post of Associate Professor, the VC said as per the rules of the Executive Council, the post of Associate Professor has been degraded as Assistant Professor.

He said during his tenure, 8 new departments have been started, M.Phil course has been launched, PhD registration has been done besides B.Ed and M.Ph courses have been started.

The VC further stated that he even does not take any travelling allowance if he goes out in University related works.
