Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries has started its e-commerce venture JioMart in three neigbourhoods surrounding Mumbai on Sunday.

JioMart, an online shopping venture of Reliance Retail went live in Navi-Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan in Maharashtra.

According to a notification in Jio’s website, JioMart will be launching soon in other parts of the country.

“The roll out is happening during the toughest of times considering the supply chain constraints,” Bloomberg Quint quoted an industrialist Vikraman PN as saying.

Customers need to add JioMart’s WhatsApp number 8850008000 on their phones, according to JioMartLite’s website.

After JioMart provides a link to place the order and once the order is placed, it is shared with a grocery store on WhatsApp, it said.

The customer is notified with the order and the store details on his number, the website added.

Jio’s move to launch its e-commerce venture comes just three days after social media giant Facebook announced to invest Rs 43,574 crore in Jio platforms for a 9.9 per cent stake.

“Jio’s vision is to enable a Digital India for 1.3 billion Indians and Indian businesses, especially small merchants, micro-businesses and farmers,” Reliance Jio had earlier said in a statement.

“Jiohas brought transformational changes in the Indian digital services space and propelled India on the path towards becoming a global technology leader and among the leading digital economies in the world,” it added.
