Hyundai India on Tuesday officially launched its Kona Electric SUV, and has been priced at Rs 25.30 to 25.50 lakhs.
The much-awaited vehicle from Hyundai is the first electric SUV in India. It has an all-electric range of 452 Km in a single charge (ARAI certified), with a 39.2 kWh battery pack.

Hyundai on Tuesday started selling Kona Electric through 15 dealerships in 11 cities with necessary EV infrastructure and support. Soon the numbers would increase with the demand.
The Kona Electric offers a peak power of 134.13 bhp and 395 Nm and does 0-100 kmph in 9.7 seconds.
The Kona Electric has four drive modes – Eco, Eco Plus, Comfort and Sport. There is 3 years/ unlimited kilometres vehicle warranty and 3 years/ 160,000 kilometres battery warranty.

Kona’s safety features are also of international standards. It has six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, blind spot detection, hill-start assist and reverse camera.
The electric vehicle is loaded with features like 17.7 cm floating touch-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated and ventilated seats and sunroof.
Kona Electric has joined Hyundai’s SUV line-up of Venue, Creta, and the Tucson. It has come in through CBU (completely built units) initially, and Hyundai plans to assemble it in the Chennai plant by 2020.
Hyundai officials said they are exploring to source EV components in India to keep the costs low. Hyundai will install fast chargers in all electric selling dealerships.
Hyundai has partnered with IOCL to install chargers at select fuel pumps across India. It has tied up with Map My India to display Kona Electric compatible charging stations in an app.
The new electric SUV can be fully charged overnight with a regular power socket. However, with a fast charger, 80 per cent charge can be achieved in just 50 minutes.
