Darrang local artisans can heave a sigh of relief as the District Handloom and Textile Department in collaboration with the District Administration has organized an exhibition cum sale of Bihuwan called ‘Gamosa Mela-2018’ for the local artisans of Mangaldai town.
MLA, Mangaldai Gurujyoti Das on Sunday inaugurated the-week long ‘mela’ at Jayanta Hazarika memorial park.

Artisans, buyers, members of different organizations, SHGs and several prominent guests including Assistant Commissioner Hemashri Khanikar, Assistant Director Handloom and Textile Department, Darrang Bipul Jyoti Kalita, LDM, PK Goswami, Chairman Mangaldai Municipal Board Pratap Bordoloi, women entrepreneurs Upasana Deka and Sewali Goswami Kalita among others .
In his address MLA Das appealed to the local artisans to take up this trade commercially to fulfill the market demands and thus stop the illegal market of power loom made products imported from outside the state and neighbouring Bangladesh .
