Air Asia, one of the leading airlines in the country is keen to set up operations in Guwahati airport.
The chief executive officer of AirAsia, Amar Abrol expressed his desire to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal when he there for a road show in Bangalore. This could be a boost to the Assam government ahead of the Global Investors’ Summit.

The Chief Minister was in Bangalore recently as part of the Advantage Assam roadshow, which is to attract investors for the state. Assam is about to host it’s first ever Global Investors’ Summit to be held from February 3-4, 2018. He had one-on-one meetings with industry leaders like Captain Gopinath, CEO Amar Abrol and a few others while he was there.
The Air Asia’s interest may give a boost to Assam government’s aim to make Guwahati, a hub of business with South East Asian countries. The state government said Guwahati can be an aviation hub since it is within the 2000km air distance from seven countries which is less than the distance between Guwahati-Mumbai and Guwahati-Chennai flights.
