The biggest changes lie under the hood and beneath the body. The outdated 4.0-liter V6 engine is replaced by a standard 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 282 horsepower. This engine is paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The 4Runner remains available in 2WD, part-time 4WD, and full-time 4WD configurations.
The 2025 4Runner offers increased off-road prowess. All 4WD models come with a 2-speed electronically controlled transfer case with high and low range, along with Toyota’s new A-Trac traction control system. Approach and departure angles are also improved.
A new Trailhunter trim level caters to serious off-road enthusiasts. This variant boasts 33-inch off-road tires, increased ride height, upgraded suspension, a roof rack, a winch-ready bumper, and skid plates.
