Assam Police reach Pawan Khera's home following FIR by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma
The development comes a day after Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of the Assam chief minister, lodged an FIR against Congress leaders over allegations that she holds multiple foreign passports.

Guwahati: A team of the Assam Police on Monday reached the Delhi residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera in connection with a case linked to allegations made against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmaโ€™s wife.

According to officials, a four-member Assam Police team arrived in the national capital and was assisted by the Delhi Police. As per procedure, local police were informed before the visit, and Delhi Police is extending necessary support.

The development comes a day after Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of the Assam chief minister, lodged an FIR against Congress leaders over allegations that she holds multiple foreign passports.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said she had initiated legal action and urged the authorities to treat the matter seriously.

โ€œI have lodged an FIR. This is not to be entertained in a very lenient manner. Let justice prevail,โ€ she said, adding that the police should coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs to verify the facts.

The controversy began after Khera alleged at a press conference in Delhi that Sarma possessed passports from multiple countries and had undisclosed foreign assets.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi also raised similar claims on social media, questioning the disclosures made in Sarmaโ€™s election affidavit.

Rejecting the allegations, Sarma termed them โ€œfabricatedโ€ and accused the opposition of circulating โ€œAI-generated fake documentsโ€ to defame her.

In a social media post, she mocked the claims and said the accusations were politically motivated.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also dismissed the allegations as โ€œmalicious, fabricated and politically motivated liesโ€ and said legal action, including criminal and civil defamation proceedings, would be initiated.

โ€œTruth will prevail,โ€ he said, alleging that the statements reflected โ€œfrustrationโ€ within the Congress ahead of the elections.

Officials said the Assam Police team wanted to question Khera, who was not present at his residence when they arrived. The team remained at the premises awaiting his return.

With the Assam Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, the exchange between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress has further escalated, with the matter now expected to move into legal proceedings.
