Digboi: Voter turnout in Assamโs Tinsukia district increased during the day, rising from 17.75% in the early hours to 78.85% by 5 PM on Thursday, 9 April. Polling was continuing at several booths at the time of reporting, and the final turnout figure is expected to increase further.
The hourly polling data shows a consistent increase in voter participation across the district. Turnout rose from 17.75% at 9 AM to 37.53% by 11 AM, an increase of 19.78 percentage points. It reached 56.73% at 1 PM, registering a further increase of 19.20 percentage points. By 3 PM, the figure stood at 71.73%, adding 15 percentage points, and later reached 78.85% by 5 PM, an increase of 7.12 percentage points.
Tinsukia district, which comprises six Assembly constituencies, Sadiya (81), Doomdooma (82), Margherita (83), Digboi (84), Makum (85), and Tinsukia (86), has a total electorate of 10,08,706 voters. This includes 4,90,401 male voters, 5,18,272 female voters, and 33 third-gender electors, indicating a higher number of women voters in the district.
Among the constituencies, Sadiya (81) has 2,02,879 voters (1,01,808 male, 1,01,068 female, and 3 third-gender electors), making it the largest segment. Margherita (83) has 1,76,919 voters, while Tinsukia (86) has 1,73,190 voters. Makum (85) accounts for 1,59,217 voters, Doomdooma (82) has 1,48,786 voters, and Digboi (84) has 1,47,715 voters (71,182 male, 76,531 female, and 2 third-gender electors).
Digboi recorded a turnout of 78.37% by 5 PM.
Across the six Assembly constituencies, Makum (85) recorded 80.65% turnout, followed by Doomdooma (82) with 80.38%. Margherita (83) and Digboi (84) reported 78.43% and 78.37%, respectively. Sadiya (81) and Tinsukia (86) recorded 77.92% and 77.79%, respectively.
Polling was peaceful across the district, with election authorities reporting smooth conduct of voting. Long queues were observed at several polling stations during peak hours in both urban and rural areas.
With polling continuing in some locations beyond 5 PM, officials said the final turnout is expected to increase further.
