Digboi: A large election campaign at the Jubilee Ground in Assam’s Digboi saw public participation on Thursday afternoon. About 10,000 people from across the constituency attended the rally, including women.
The gathering showed support for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Suren Phukan, contesting from the Digboi Assembly constituency. Supporters participated and expressed confidence in his leadership.
After being greeted with a floral garland, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma placed the garland around Suren Phukan’s neck and urged the electorate to vote in large numbers for the BJP’s official candidate in the upcoming Assembly election.
Addressing the rally, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the BJP would secure 90 seats in the election scheduled for April 9. He also stated that Suren Phukan is expected to win by a margin of over 40,000 votes.
On employment initiatives, he said that if the BJP returns to power, the government will provide jobs to nearly 2 lakh people across various sectors, surpassing the 1.65 lakh jobs generated during its previous term.
Regarding education, the Chief Minister, popularly known as “Mama”, stated that the Assam government would cover educational expenses for students from KG-1 to higher studies.
Announcing infrastructure development plans, the Chief Minister assured a special package for road infrastructure in the Digboi constituency. He stated that the package would focus on Buridihing, including Buridihing Mouza, a newly attached segment following recent delimitation.
Criticizing the opposition, he said that Congress has failed to deliver development and is limited to distributing items like dhoti, lungi, kambal, athuwa, and pyjamas, instead of implementing schemes and welfare programs.
Urging voters to support Suren Phukan, he announced that an additional 10,000 beneficiaries would be included under the Orunodoi Scheme, each receiving financial assistance of Rs 25,000.
The Chief Minister also assured that 10,000 beneficiaries from Digboi would be covered under the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan (CMAAA).
During the event, the Chief Minister interacted with people and inquired about their access to government scheme benefits. Upon learning that some were not covered, he announced that such beneficiaries would be included under various welfare schemes.
The campaign concluded with participation from residents in the Digboi Assembly constituency.
