Dibrugarh: The distribution of election materials for the six assembly constituencies in Dibrugarh district began today from Dibrugarh Polytechnic at Lahowal, ahead of the Assam Assembly elections scheduled for April 9.
Polling officials, along with presiding officers, have started departing for their respective polling stations with necessary election materials under tight security arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful voting.
A total of 10,46,031 electors will exercise their franchise across six constituencies—Dibrugarh, Chabua-Lahowal, Khowang, Duliajan, Tingkhong, and Naharkatia.
This includes 5,04,206 male voters, 5,41,815 female voters, and 10 others.Constituency-wise, Chabua-Lahowal has 1,78,397 voters, including 85,736 male voters, 92,660 female voters, and 1 other. Dibrugarh constituency has 1,97,752 voters, with 93,979 males, 1,03,771 females, and 2 others. Khowang has a total of 1,57,768 voters, comprising 76,368 males, 81,397 females, and 3 others.
Duliajan registers 1,77,552 voters, including 85,877 males, 91,672 females, and 3 others. Tingkhong has 1,78,201 voters, with 85,960 male voters and 92,241 female voters. Naharkatia accounts for 1,56,361 voters, including 76,286 males, 80,074 females, and 1 other.
The district has a total of 1,322 polling stations, divided into 26 zones and 128 sectors. Around 6,082 polling and presiding officers, including reserves, have been deployed. A total of 1,650 EVMs and 1,782 VVPATs, including reserves, have been prepared.
Additionally, 300 all-women polling stations have been set up, along with 44 very critical polling stations. One model polling station has been established in each constituency.
Special arrangements have been made for remote areas, with polling teams departing by river transport to five polling stations, three at Dodhia and one each at Charkhalia Chapori and Chakia Sapori under Chabua-Lahowal LAC.
Among polling stations, the highest number of voters has been recorded at Bezpathar MV School (1,248 voters) in Khowang, while the lowest is at BVFCL HS School, Namrup Centre No. 2 (144 voters) in Naharkatia.
Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place with a three-layer system at booth, sector, and zonal levels. A total of 28 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed for preventive action, area domination, and confidence-building measures.
Further strengthening security, 13 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and three Strike Response Teams have been kept on standby. Home Guards, police personnel, and CAPF jawans have been deployed at every polling station.
To ensure transparency, all polling stations will be under webcasting surveillance, officials said.
