Guwahati: The Congress party on Thursday, April 9, filed a formal police complaint against its candidate from Assam’s Udalguri Assembly constituency, Suren Daimari, who had stepped out of the election contest a day earlier and also announced his exit from the party.
The complaint was submitted at Bhangagarh Police Station in Guwahati by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary (organisation) Ramanna Baruah. He mentioned in the FIR that Daimari had initially sought the partyโs nomination for the 46 Udalguri Assembly seat, which was later approved by the organisation.
According to Baruah, after securing the ticket, Daimari filed his nomination papers, which were accepted by the Election Commission. He also stated that the party transferred ?30 lakh to Daimari through RTGS for election-related expenses.
Baruah further said that, as per reports in the media, Daimari resigned from Congress membership on April 8. He also publicly declared through various media platforms that he was withdrawing from the Assembly election race. In addition, he reportedly referred to the Congress party using derogatory remarks, calling it a โbetrayer partyโ and a โfraudulent party.โ
The complaint stated that such remarks and actions have damaged the public image of the party. It also alleged that Daimariโs conduct falls under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The complainant urged police to investigate the matter, register a case under Sections 314, 316, 318, 356 and other applicable provisions, and take necessary legal action against him.
