Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC)ย has formed seven special monitoring teams to supervise the counting of votes for the recently held assembly elections, with the process set for May 4.
Party sources said the move is intended to improve on-ground supervision and ensure that the counting process is closely tracked at every stage.
In a statement issued by APCC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh along with state president Gaurav Gogoi, it was stated that these teams will be deployed in all constituencies that went to polls on April 9.
The state recorded a voter turnout of 85.96 percent, which is among the highest in recent years.
The assigned groups will carry out duties such as verifying arrangements at strongrooms, maintaining contact with party candidates, and engaging with district-level party leadership. Senior leaders have been distributed across different regions to manage coordination.
In Upper Assam, the team includes Debabrata Saikia, Raju Sahu, Utpal Gogoi, Rajkumar Nalatira Neog, David Phukan, and Mrityunjay Duarah, covering districts such as Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat.
For the North Bank areas, responsibilities have been assigned to Ripun Bora, Ghana Burhagohain, J.P. Das, Shailen Sonowal, Kartik Kurmi, Shankar Kutum, and Meghnath Chetri.
In Central Assam and the hill districts, the monitoring group consists of Bhimananda Bora, Diganta Barman, Satyabrata Kalita, Mira Borthakur Goswami, Swapan Kar, Mrinal Hazarika, Akram Hussain, Nirmal Langthasa, Ratan Engti, Augustine Engti, Ashok Teron, Pallav Chetia, and Charaniki Engti, covering Nagaon, Morigaon, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao.
Lower Assam will be handled by Pradip Sarkar, A.K. Rashid Alam, Deep Bayan, Gajendra Upamanyu, Arun Tiwari, and Mustafa Khaddam Hussain. In the Barak Valley, the team includes Ajit Singh, Abhijit Paul, Aminul Islam, Biswajit Ghosh, Badarul Borbhuyan, Papon Dev, Pradip Gowala, and Hussain Ahmed Choudhury.
For the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), responsibilities have been given to Mehdi Alam Bora, Budhadeb Phandabgazi, Chittaranjan Brahma, Bhabanath Nath, Stephen Lakra, Umesh Deka, Dipak Kalita, and Satya Nath Kalita.
According to party officials, the move is intended to strengthen on-ground monitoring and better coordination.
Teams will arrive at counting centres before May 4 and stay deployed until the counting process is fully completed.
