It may be mentioned here that the New Zealand High Commission recently supported a livelihood support and education campaign for Assam’s Hargila army.
This would help Hargila army in enabling the women to take up conservation of Hargila in and around Dadara village in Assam’s Kamrup district.
Barman has been engaged in conservation of Hargila for a long time in Kamrup district and it is due to her effort that the Dadara and some adjacent villages in Assam’s Kamrup district have become a huge colony of storks.
Purnima Barman was conferred the prestigious Whitley Awards, also known as the Green Oscars in May 2017 by Whitley Fund for Nature for her works regarding the conservation of Hargila in Assam.
