A woman was washed away while crossing Difloo river in Dolamara under Dolamara police station in Karbi Anglong on Sunday, but her body is yet to be recovered.

The SDRF teams from Golaghat and Bokaghat districts are searching for the body.

According to information, a couple – Sing Ronghang and his wife Lodep Rongpharpi – on their way back home from their paddy field was crossing the river.

Eyewitnesses said, “All of a sudden water rushed down from the surrounding hills at around 5:30 pm. As the water level went up and the force of the current increased, the couple in order to save themselves held hands but the woman, Lodep Rongpharpi, was washed away.”

Her body was not found till the time of this report.

Villagers started searching for her body till the morning on Monday but in vain.

A villager, Dhoniram Rongphar, informed the officer-incharge of Dolamora police station, Dhrubojyoti Borah.

Borah called the SDRF teams from Golaghat and Bokaghat districts for launching a search operation.

After the incident, villagers of Dolamora and Malasi demanded that Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) should immediately construct a bridge over the river.

A villager said, “We don’t want anything else but a bridge over Difloo river to end our woes. The road across the river is our lifeline.”
