Security has been tightened following a clash between the supporters and workers of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha at Dharmanagar in North Tripura on Sunday.

According to information, the incident took place in the afternoon on Sunday when a CPI(M) leader along with his supporters attacked the BJP Yuva Morcha workers with sharp weapon during their rally at Dharmanagar.

Following the attack, the BJP Yuva Morcha workers also retaliated.

At least 15 bikes and a car were torched during the clash in the area.

It may be mentioned here that the BJP Yuva Morcha youths went for an election campaign along with party candidates at Dharmanagar ahead of Panchayat election.

“Following the attack on the BJP Yuva Morcha workers, supporters and workers of the saffron party also carried out a counter-attack at the CPI(M) party office in the evening and the party office was also rampaged,” said sources.

Following attack on the CPI(M) party office, there was a clash between the workers of the BJP Youth Morcha and CPI(M).

In the incident, many BJP Yuva Morcha members were injured and three were sent to Silchar for further treatment.

Huge police force, Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) and Tripura State Police (TSR) personnel have been deployed in the area to keep a check on the security issues.
