The 8th National Voters’ Day was observed with the theme “Accessible Elections” across Nagaland on Thursday.

In Kohima, the day was observed at Capital Convention Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar stated that voting right is precious and fragile.

He said National Voters’ Day is aimed at encouraging more young voters to take part in the political process.

The Chief Secretary urged the people to exercise their right to vote and free and fair election.

“Good governance is linked to how we vote,” he said while encouraging the people specially the youths to participate in the democratic electoral process.

Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Sinha, in his address, appealed to the citizens to rededicate themselves to pursue the objectives of greater participation as well as qualitative participation in terms of ethical and informed voting for stronger democracy.

He urged all eligible voters to know their rights and responsibilities to participate in the electoral process and join hands with the Election Commission to serve the people better.

Launching and playing of an anthem on clean election, cultural presentation, administering of National Voter’s Day pledge by CEO, presentation of awards and presentation of EPICs and NVD badges to new voters and millennium voters by the chief secretary marked the day

The day was also observed in Mon, Tuensang, Peren, Wokha, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Phek, Changtongya, Chen, Tuli, Medziphema, Tseminyu, Aboi, Pughoboto etc.

Meanwhile, the officers and staff of Nagaland Governor’s Secretariat took pledge on National Voters’ Day. The pledge was administered by Joint Secretary to Governor, SK Sahoo.
