Union minister of Human Resources Development Ramesh Pokhriyal on Monday said that university-level textbooks are now being translated and published in 22 languages of Eighth Schedule of Constitution of India.

While interacting during a Lok Sabha session on Monday, Pokhriyal said that the step has been taken to promote the use of regional language in higher education in the country.

He also said that the Commission of Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) is providing publication grant for publishing books in regional languages.

Pokhriyal said that the National Translation Mission –a Central government initiative to facilitate higher education by making knowledge texts accessible to students and academics in Indian languages-is being carried out through the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) Mysore.

He added that university level books had currently been translated to 11 Indian languages- Assamese,  Bengali,  Gujarati,  Hindi, Kannada  Malayalam, Marathi,Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu.
