Dr Birinchi Kumar Das has been appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of Bhattadev University.

A landmark in the higher education of lower Assam, Bajali College at Pathsala in Barpeta district has been upgraded to a university and named as Bhattadev University.

Dr Das officially joined the university on Tuesday.

As Dr Das arrived at the premises of bajali College, he was warmly welcomed by a host of people including eminent personalities of the area, representatives of different organizations and institutions.

The governing body president of the college, Sampurnananda Talukdar, Patacharkuchi MLA Pabindra Deka, Bajali College principal Dr Chandana Sarma along with other noted personalities of the area were present in the programme which was organized in the college premises to welcome and felicitate the newly-appointed first Vice Chancellor of the university.

Dr Das delivered a speech on the occasion where he spoke about the aims and objectives of the new university in the form of a vision document.

Bhattadev University has been established by the Act 36 of 2017 by the government of Assam by upgrading Bajali College, Pathsala in Barpeta district to a university.

Bajali College was established in the year 1955. The college, known for quality education, a landmark institution in the higher education history of lower Assam, is offering UG courses in science, arts and commerce and PG courses in four faculties (Zoology, Geography, Mathematics and Assamese).

The college has been accredited by NAAC in the year 2017 with ‘A’ grade.
