Goalpara deputy commissioner Varnali Deka hoped that the establishment of a traffic unit in the police station would help maintain traffic in the area and maintenance of traffic rules would curtail down the increasing traffic hazard in Lakhipur town.

“The increasing number of vehicles is a good economic sign for the people, however, we will have to cope up with the traffic rules,” said the Goapara deputy commissioner.

On the other hand, Goalpara superintendent of police Susanta Biswa Sarma said the new traffic control system will soon create awareness among the people of the town about safety measures like using of helmet, tying of seat belts and not to mix drinking with driving.

Significantly, Minority Development Board chairman Abdur Rahim Zibran emphasised on bringing an end to political interference in police duties.

Cross-sections of people expressed satisfaction over this initiative of the Assam Police.
