The All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) and the North East Minorities Students’ Union (NEMSU) on Thursday separately filed complaints against a right-wing organization for allegedly attacking a group of Muslim people in the name of religion.
As per reports, the victims who were from the minority community were abused by some miscreants claiming to be members of a right wing organization.
While the victims were going by an autorickshaw on Tuesday, the rogues stopped the vehicle in the Barpeta town and physically tortured them.
The victims were then forced to shout slogans such as ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Pakistan Murdabad’.
The attackers who were shooting a video while beating the victims later uploaded the video on social media.
Congress MP from Barpeta Abdul Khaleque has asked the superintendent of police to take strict action against the culprits.
Religious persecution has been on the rise in India for a few years.
According to a report by an international NGO Human Rights Watch, there were 254 documented incidents of crimes targeting religious minorities between January 2009 and October 2018, in which at least 91 people were killed and 579 injured.
