Commuters have to suffer a lot as inter-state private bus service between Dhubri of Assam and Cooch Behar of Bengal come to halt at borders since Monday.

Dhubri drivers refused to cross the border as tension prevailed among the staffs of bus service following the incidents of a brutal attack upon the staff of Dhubri origin bus by a Trinmool leader and a Cooch Behar based bus owner on June 16 last.

Near and above, 30 buses are operating for the aforesaid locations on daily basis.

Dipak Kr Sah, Secretary of Dhubri Cooch Behar Bus Sramik Union said that on June 16 last, one of their members namely Mintu Dev Nath was brutally assaulted by the driver of Cooch Behar bus and when some of the other members obstructed one bus owner Babu Mahanta of Cooch Behar, who is a local Trinmool Congress leader and threatened all with dire consequences, if they came back to Cooch Behar.

The Union on Tuesday has submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Dhubri and copy of which has also been sent to supertendent of police, Dhubri through which the union has expressed their fear and said that under present situation, union members are not willing to go Cooch Behar with bus till they are not given full protection.

The bus operators were stopped near Chagolia, few kilometers away from interstate border.

However, government transport bus service is running as usual.
