The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP), the employees association of Assam, declared on Monday in Goalpara district that the association might change its stand on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB).
“Owing to the landslide mandate the people of Assam has given to the party which has supported the CAB, the SAKP may also change its opposing stand to the bill,” said Basab Kalita, president, SAKP.

However, Kalita didn’t make it clear whether the association will sit sooner or later to take the pro-government stand. He was talking on the sidelines of the three-day state convention of the SAKP at Goalpara town that ended on Monday.
Contrary to the move initiated by the employees’ association which is sure to put the government in a comfortable position, no state government ministers attended the three days convention including the chief minister who was scheduled to participate in open session on Monday.
Meanwhile, the convention also witnessed mismanagement on the part of the reception committe which led to the poor participation even on the open session. Dr Paramananda Rajbonshi, president of Axom Sahitya Sabha and Dipanka Nath, president of AASU addressed the open session besides others.
