The Assam government has planned to ban plastic carry-bags all over the state.

Assam minister of state for health Piyush Hazarika on Tuesday said the process to ban the use of plastics has already started and the health department has written to the authorities of all the civic bodies.

“The government has already started the process and in this connection letters have been sent to all the civic bodies to take necessary steps. We are also going to introduce a Bill in this regard in the next Assembly session,” minister Hazarika told reporters at Kharupetia in the sidelines of an event.

Earlier the minister ceremonially opened the distribution of funds under the Urban Livelihood Mission amounting to Rs 25,000 each to a total of 55 SHGs under Kharupetia Municipal Board.

The function was also attended by newly elected Mangaldai Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia , Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das and Kharupetia Municipal Board chairperson Krishna Saha among others .
