Barpeta Lok Sabha seat winner in 2019 general election, Assam Congress leader Abdul Khaleque’s mother Sabura Khatun has been served a National Register of Citizens (NRC) objection notice.
As per reports, the objection had been filed against the 75-year-old woman by a person named Hridayranjan Nath.
However, when Khaleque along with his mother went to the NRC Seva Kendra (NSK) for hearing with all necessary details, the objector was not found to be present there.
Khaleque later termed the filing of objections as a conspiracy and added that his mother’s name had been enlisted in the 1951 NRC list as well as in the 1971 voter’s list.
His mother had been born in Kalgachia’s Bartari village under Jania constituency of Barpeta district in Assam.
Khaleque has been able to win the Barpeta Lok Sabha seat in the general elections, results of which were declared recently, by securing a total of 6,45,173 votes.
