A Border Security Force (BSF) official, hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, committed suicide at Pancharatan under Gandachera sub-division in Tripura’s Dhalai district on Friday.
The BSF official, who was posted in Tripura on election duty, committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at 7.45 pm on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as one 50-year-old Ashwini Kumar.
He was serving as an assistant sub-inspector of the 86 battalion of BSF.
He committed suicide inside a bus (registration No. TR 04 1216) while performing election duty.
Ashwini Kumar hails from Pallanwala village under Khour Tehsil in Jammu district of Jammu & Kashmir.
The ‘C’ company of the 86 battalion of BSF under which Aswini was attached came to Pancharatan on Thursday on election work.
The headquarters of the battalion is located at Ambassa.
Following the incident, the BSF personnel took injured Ashwini immediately to the Gandcahera Sub-Divisional Hospital where the attending doctor, Nirja Debbarma, declared him ‘brought dead’.
The cause of the BSF officil committing suicide is yet to be ascertained.
Post-mortem will be conducted at the hospital on Saturday.
The company of the BSF is about to leave Gandachera from Saturday to their headquarters.
