Sensation prevails in Kadamtala area in North Tripura district following the death of a newly-married woman after being allegedly set on fire by her in-laws.

An FIR has been lodged by the victim’s family with Kadamtala police station.

On the basis of the FIR, the police have registered a case [PS/034US 498 (A)/304(B)] under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to information, 19-year-old Sadika Subani, a resident of Ward No 3 of Kalagangerpar Gram Panchayat under Kadamtala Block in Dharmashala sub-division, got married to 22-year-old one Juwel Hussain 6 months back.

Hussain is a resident of Ichailalchara area under Kadamtala police station.

“After their marriage, everything went well in the beginning but later she was subjected to mental and physical harassment by Sadika’s in-laws. In this regard, she intimated her father’s family,” said sources.

“In the evening on Friday, Sadika’s father’s family got a message that their daughter caught fire in her in-laws’ house,” sources added.

She was immediately shifted to the District Civil Hospital at Dharmanagar from where she was again referred for better treatment outside the state as she had received major burn injuries.

At first, Sadika was taken to the 120-bedded Makunda Christian Leprosy & General Hospital situated in Karimganj district of Assam close to Tripura.

But the doctors at Makunda Christian Leprosy & General Hospital referred her to the Silchar Medical College & Hospital for better treatment as she had received 70 per cent burn injuries, sources further informed.

But on the way to Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Sadika succumbed to her burn injuries.

“Police have started investigation into the case,” said sources.

The deceased’s family has alleged that her in-laws set Sadika on fire.

The victim’s husband is stated be out of the state.
