That Udalguri district of Assam has no dearth of sporting talent has yet again proved by another promising karate player Chandini Khatun.

Seventeen years old Chandini, daughter of Kuddos Khan and Fatima Begum, a resident of No 2 Naharbari village under Mazbat police station in Udalguri district has proved her mettle by clinching gold medal in 45 kg category in the Second International Karate Championship 2019 held at Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh from April 26 to 28 last organized by All Bharat Shotokan Karate-Do Federation

The promising karate player who comes from a poverty striken family despite facing hardships in training herself up for the tournament through her sheer determination and hardwork emerged victorious.

The player who reached her hometown by train on Thursday was accorded a warm felicitation by various organizations like ABSU, AASAA, ATTSA, ABMSU along with Udalguri district administration.

Representing district administration, DSP (HQ), Moidul Islam and Mazbat OC, Upen Chandra Barman feted the player with a phulam bihuwan and wished her success in future endeavours. Talking exclusively to NorthEast Now, Chandini who appeared for matriculation examination from Mazbat Higher Secondary school this year said, “It is a cloud nine feeling for me having represented my State and fetching gold medal.”

She further stated that she developed interest in karate after participating in a three-month free coaching camp at her school and now she though gets paod coaching her family members who rear poultry and goats manages to pay for her training by sells livestocks.

She also exhorted the State Government to introduce free coaching classes for various sports to tap the talent of the budding players and also grant financial aid to promising players. The local students’ organizations expressed great hopes in the State Government for extending financial aid to the promising player.
