As an earnest effort to upheld Assamese tradition and culture, especially during the Bihu festival, employees of several petrol pumps of Goalpara district in Lower Assam have begun serving customers by wearing completely traditional Assamese dress.

The employees of Bharat petrol pump at Bapujinagar of Goalpara town and Shiv Shakti filling statuon at Matia of East Goalpara have been gladly wearing the traditional dhoti and other traditional attires with one gamosa tied at waist and one over forehead these days.

Siddik Ahmed of Baladmari char, Goalpara and Kishan Jha of Bihar is ecstatic in the traditional dress.

“We readily accepted the proposal our proprietor to wear the traditional dress,” they said.

Chattra Kumar Das, the owner of the Bharat petrol pump and a young social worker meanwhile shared, ‘this is my second Bihu celebration such a way at my pump and I do it with a view to uphold our age old culture.’

Two Assamese youth employees, Anup and Pranjal of Shiv Shakti filling station of indian oil at Matia shared their feelings, ‘Our home is not away from our working place and we are celebrating the excitement of the festival like this.

Rupjyoti Rajbonshi, proprietor, said, ‘I am happy to bring such a cultural environment in my business place.’ Steps taken by the two petrol pump owners have drawn praise from cross section of people.
