Mangaldai College authority on Thursday presented the fifth DBT Star Students Award-2019 sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India to four selected students with outstanding potentiality.

The award which carries a certificate, a bundle of reference books of post graduate standard worth Rs 5,000, one bag and a stipend of Rs 1000 for summer training organized by DBT Star College each was presented to Arunima Konwar (Botany), Gulap Hussain (Chemistry),  Anamika Sarkar (Physics) and Bidushi Saha (Zoology) at a ceremonial function organized by the IBT hub and IQAC of the college at the Science Gallery.

Professor Hari Prasad Sarma, rector and head of Environmental Science of Gauhati University as the chief guest gave away the awards in presence of principal of Mangaldai College Dr Khagendra Kumar Nath and Paresh Sarma, in charge of the IQAC in presence of the teachers, other invited guests and students of the college.

Earlier the names of the winners were announced from the list of three nominees for each of the subject amidst a huge round of applause from the students present.

Just before the announcement of the names of the winners, Dr Kamla KantaBorah, the HoD of Chemistry department and the coordinator of this award scheme highlighted the procedure of selection of the awardees and also gave a brief account on the history of the award.

Prior to the award ceremony, Prof Hari Prasad Sarma delivered a popular lecture on “Solid Waste Management” organized jointly by IBT hub & DBT Star College Scheme, Mangaldai College where the speaker Dr Sarma underlined several important issues related to the solid waste management.

He urged the students to be the part of the clean and green environment.

Earlier Dr Prativa Deka, coordinator, IBT Hub, Mangaldai College extended a hearty welcome to the chief guest Dr Sarma while the chief guest inaugurated the function by lighting a lamp in a traditional way.
