IIT Guwahati has retained the 7th position among the best engineering institutions of the country in the ‘India Rankings 2019’ of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the union ministry of human resource development.

Informing about the ranking on its official Facebook account, IIT Guwahati stated: “In the overall ranking, IIT Guwahati move upwards to the 9th place in 2019 from its 12th position in 2018.”

The award was given away by President Ram Nath Kovind, in a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is the top engineering institute in Northeast India.

IIT Guwahati, which is the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994.

Prof. Gautam Biswas, director, IIT Guwahati and Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Prof. in-charge, Peer Review & Institutional Ranking received the award on behalf of IIT Guwahati.

According to information, the parameters for assessment broadly include ‘teaching, learning and resources’, ‘research and professional practices’, ‘graduation outcomes’, ‘outreach and inclusivity’ and ‘perception’.

According to media reports, the rankings were announced under nine categories – Overall, Universities, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, Engineering and Law.

IIT Madras topped the list of best engineering institutes in the overall category.

In the Law category, National Law School of India University, Bengaluru and National University, New Delhi were ranked top.

In Architecture category, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee secured the first two positions respectively while in Indian medical institutes category, AIIMS New Delhi and PGIMER Chandigarh secured first two ranks.

IISc Bangalore topped in the Universities category, followed by JNU, New Delhi.
