A road safety awareness meet was organized at Mangaldai in Darrang district of Assam on Tuesday.
The day-long programme along with a public meeting in connection with the road safety awareness was organized by the District Transport Office in association with Darrang- Kamrup Bus Owners’ Association at the office hall of the Association adjacent to the public bus terminus at Bhebarghat in Mangaldai.
Speaking on the occasion, district transport officer Kumar Sanjiv Krishna was of the opinion that the alarming rise in number of road accidents has been claiming many young lives of bright future and it is the high time that all section of the society join hands together to reduce the increasing cases of road accidents so that the precious lives could be saved.
“Strictly following the traffic rules and to make it a part of life is the only solution for minimizing the road accidents,” he added.
Earlier, motor vehicle inspector Padma Lochan Hazarika while explaining the objective of the programme laid stress on the need of the civil society in taking part in the road safety rules.
Hazarika while explaining the objectives of the programme underlined how the District Transport Office under the able guidance of the new district transport officer in association with local NGOs, NCC cadets and other social organizations have chalked out plans for series of such awareness programmes with special focus on young college students and commercial drivers among others.
Several speakers including in charge of traffic wing of Mangaldai police station, assistant sub inspector Gokul Deka, president of local Bus Owners’ Association Munin Dutta, and media person Bhargab Kumar Das also spoke on the occasion as the resource persons.
