A POSCO court has sentenced three years rigorous imprisonment to a man for sexually assaulting a minor girl in West Jaintia Hills.
The court on Monday convicted Wanmi Lyngdoh, a resident of Muthlong village, for sexual assault under Section 8 of POCSO Act, 2012. He was also imposed fine of Rs. 1,000 and in the event of failure to pay the fine, the convict will further undergo simple imprisonment for one month.
West Jaintia Hills SP, Vivek Syiem said on May 22, 2015, an FIR was filed at Jowai police station by the mother of an eleven-year-old girl in West Jaintia Hills District, that her daughter had been raped the previous day by one 20- year-old Wanmi Lyngdoh, The Shillong Times reported.
The case was registered U/S 4 POCSO Act 2012 and the case was investigated by the O/C Women PS West Jaintia Hills, WPSI O. Tyngkan (now Inspector) and she submitted her chargesheet on August 3, 2015.
The case was tried in the Court of Noor-Ain Khan (MHJS), Special Judge (POCSO) Jowai.
