The All India Mahila Congress president and MP from Silchar, Sushmita Dev, said on Saturday that “Modi is the king of corruption”. Sushmita has once again got the ticket to contest from Silchar for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
While talking to Northeast Now, the MP from Silchar said, “Modi has spoken so much about wiping out corruption. But, he and his party are in the thick of corruption. Be it Rafale or demonetisation. Demonetisation is a huge scam in itself.”
She further added, “The amount of loss the people have suffered due to demonetisation cannot be quantified. Rather people like Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya, who all are friends of Narendra Modi, are now absconding after gulping the taxpayers’ money. Modi will not win this time round as he will not get the vote of the youths. Youths had brought him to power in 2014.”
Dev further remarked that unemployment is on the rise and it can be gauged by the fact that innumerable graduates and postgraduates are sitting idle at home without any jobs. This is why, she said, the youths won’t vote for him. Thanking the district, mandal, block, booth, APCC and AICC members for bestowing faith on her and announcing her name to contest Silchar Lok Sabha seat once again on a Congress ticket, she stated, “Every election has its own challenges. One such challenge is the tea garden votes. I strongly believe that Modi government giving Rs 5,000 to tea garden labourers to lure them will not help them in living a dignified life. These labourers have suffered a lot on various fronts during the last five years and it is unlikely that they will vote for the saffron party again.”
Does she stand chances of winning the Silchar seat since an AIUDF candidate is also contesting from the same seat? “I have jumped into the electoral battlefield and I am well aware of the fact that I have to face challenges.”
