Leader of opposition of the Assam legislative assembly, Debabrata Saikia has sought the intervention of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal regarding the alleged sexual and mental harassment of some girls from Assam in Hyderabad.

Saikia quoted a report in The Assam Tribune and said that some girls from the state, who had completed training under beauty and wellness sector under Prime Minister’s Kaushal Vikash Yojana, were sexually and mentally harassed in Hyderabad.

The girls were offered employment by a company in Hyderabad and were told that they would have to work either as beauticians or spa therapist.

However, the girls later found that they would have to work as messeurs for both men and women at an up market spa centre at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.

“While a few of them left immediately, some of the girls stayed back to earn a livelihood but only to face mental and sexual harassment from their clients. Apparently the employers have confiscated their passports,” Saikia said while appealing to inquire into the allegation to girls who had undergone training under a flagship programme of the government.

Saikia also appealed to the chief minister to help the girls in distress, who had also lodged a complaint through the women helpline Sakhi 181.
