At a time when most of the people have been running to earn extra bucks, Nibedita Ghosh, a visually-impaired woman, has been imparting free tuitions to the underprivileged students in Diphu for the last ten years so that they can go ahead in their lives.

Thirty-four-year-old Ghosh resides at Sitlabari near the Diphu Railway Station along with her younger sister and mother.

Ghosh, who has already lost her father, started to lose her sight in her left eye in 1999. But her struggle was on.  In search of a job, she went to Dimapur in 2006 and worked at a private firm. She applied for a job at Faith Hospital and got selected. But as she began to lose her sight in her right eye too, she took decided to leave her job and came back to Diphu in July, 2007.

Coming back to Diphu, Ghosh started to impart free tuitions in her residence for the underprivileged students from Class I to Class 10.

She felt proud to say that one of her students, having alcoholic parents, secured first division in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination, 2015. She has claimed that she has her own method of teaching her students.

“I listen to the questions raised by my students and then I give the answers,” said Ghosh. She has informed that she mainly teaches English subject.

She has informed that though the local doctors have advised her to go for advance ophthalmology care in Kolkata or in Nepal, due to financial issues, she has failed to avail further treatment.

But despite her visual-impairment, Ghosh has not stopped from extending free service towards the society. Apart from giving free tuitions to the underprivileged students, she also runs an NGO – Swapnalok Bidya Niketan – which was founded in 2014 and she is the general secretary of the organisation.

Informing that she did her schooling from Bengali Medium School, Diphu and cleared her HSLC Examination in 2005, Ghosh said that she graduated from Diphu Government College with Political Science as major subject in 2004. However, she could not further pursue higher education due to financial problems.

She teaches the poor, destitute children and the children with troubled families of the slum areas around the Diphu Railway Station.

She has appealed to the people for donations. She said people also can donate used clothes for the destitute children through her NGO – Swapnalok Bidya Niketan.
