In continuation to its remarkable run of seizures and apprehensions, Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles once again apprehended one alleged drug smuggler carrying contraband brown sugar and heroin worth approximately Rs 1.75 crores from Khudengthabi check post along Imphal-Moreh highway, according to a press release.
On Friday, based on specific input received from reliable source, a team of troops of Khudengthabi Post stopped a Red Colour i20 car (MN 06LA 7405) travelling from Moreh to Imphal for checking, says Assam Rifles (South) PRO in a press release.
While carrying out a thorough checking of the vehicle, 50 packets of brown sugar and seven packets of heroin were found hidden inside the hollow channels running on both sides of chassis of vehicle.
The apprehended person has been identified himself as Md Ziaur Rahman (25) of Uchiwa Awang Leikai in Thoubal District, the release added.
The individual along with the contraband was handed over to Narcotics and Affairs of Border, Imphal.
The 26 Sector Assam Rifles has once again proved its resolute will and determination to eradicate the smuggling of drugs and contraband items in its area of responsibility and especially on National Highway 102.
In a short span of one and half months in 2019, 26 Sector Assam Rifles has recovered contraband items worth a staggering amount of approximately Rs 42 crores,the release added.
In one of the biggest recoveries of contraband drugs in 2019, the Assam Rifles personnel seized a huge quantity of banned drugs called WIY (World is Yours) tablets worth approximately Rs 14.58 crores when Tengnoupal Battalion troops of Khudengthabi Post checked a dark maroon coloured SUV Tata Aria (AS01AZ 1722) which was travelling from Moreh to Imphal in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar on Monday afternoon.
