The 25th Meet cum Silver Jubilee of Liangmai Sports Association (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) was held at Liangchi (Makui) village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Friday.

State Chief Minister N Biren Singh, local MLA Awangbou Newmai, Wangoi MLA Oinam Lukhoi, Konthoujam MLA and Manipur Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Dr S Ranjan attended the opening function of the meet at the remote village.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that a VIP gallery would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh within this year at the meet venue.

As desired by the people, the Government would also consider the proposal for the construction of the mini sports complex in the village, he added.

He also said that the Government would repair the damaged base of a bridge located on the road that connects Makui village with IT road as soon as possible.

It may be mentioned that the base of the bridge was damaged in the recent flood.

Stating that the Union Government is focussing to development of the north-eastern region, he urged the general public to fully utilize this opportunity.

Appreciating the unity and good hospitality of Liangmai people, he also congratulated the LSA for organizing the sports event every year for the last 25 years. He said that there is no dearth of talent in Manipur. However, the State needs to develop more infrastructures to tap these talents, he added.

The Government would extend possible help to the organizers in the coming years to promote the sports culture in the region, he further said.

Various cultural troupes including a group of dancers of 14th Bn Sikh Regiment presented a colourful cultural programme at the opening function.

Among others, Chief Secretary R R Rashmi, DGP LM Khaute, media advisor to the Chief Minister Irengbam Arun, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Vineet Joshi and 14th Bn Sikh Regiment Commandant Col AK Singh were also present at the occasion.
