The first Sports Week of Khongdei Circle Youth and Students’ Organisation was inaugurated at Khongdei Khuman village, Chillivai area in Manipur’s Purul block under Senapati district on Tuesday.
Khongdei Khuman,a poumai village is located about 125 km Northeast of Imphal in Senapati district bordering Ukhrul district on the East. Altogether 10 unit villages of the areas participated in the conference cum sports’ week.
Manipur public health and engineering minister L Dikho, a local MLA from Mao constituency inaugurated the Sports cum Students’ conference which is scheduled to continue till January 11.
Chairman ML Markson of autonomous district council (ADC) Senapati district, executive member RK Thotrei, members Maikho Alex and P Veini of ADC Senapati district were the guests of honour of the inaugural function at the picturesque hill village.
Addressing the gathering, minister Dikho said sports are a good avenue for leadership development of the youth. He further appealed to the youths of the area to work hard and compete with their contemporaries in different disciplines.
Exhorting the youths to specialize in the particular discipline of sport according to one’s trait and talents, he also assured that he would try to sponsor financial support to five UPSC aspirants for a year from the Khongdei circle.
