The Government Railway Police (GRP) in the early morning on Saturday arrested a person and seized a huge consignment of suspected ganja from the down Rajdhani Express at Guwahati Govt Railway Police Station.
Official sources said, “The train checking staff of Guwahati GRPS during routine checking at 5:30 am today (Saturday) recovered suspected ganja, approximately 25 KGs, during checking of train No 20505 Down Rajdhani Express (Coach No. A/ 3) from the possession of a person identified as Pappu Singh, aged 43 years.”
The accused, Pappu Singh, is the son of Nagen Singh of Bibiganj village under Udyant Nagar Police Station in Bhojpur district of Bihar.
Sources also informed that the accused, Pappu Singh brought the suspected ganja from Dimapur and supposed to be delivered at Arah in Bihar.
“In this connection a case has been registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS) Act and is being investigated,” sources added.
It may be mentioned that the GRP also apprehended a ganja peddler from the Guwahati Railway Station on December 13 last.
The accused was identified as 18-year-old Roke Mondal alias Palash Kr Mandal, a resident of Murshidabad district in West Bengal. He was reportedly apprehended from platform No.4 of the Guwahati Railway Station.
As per media reports, the accused was apprehended along with packets of cannabis weighing 12 kgs from 15960 Down Kamrup Express (Coach No. 1).
The consignment of cannabis was being transported from Dimapur to Khakra of West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
A case was registered under NDPS Act by the Government Railway Police at the Guwahati Railway Station.
