Union Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Shripad Yesso Naik said Ministry of AYUSH had approved setting up of a new Homoeopathic College having a Homeopathy Pharmacy and a Drug Testing Laboratory at Keirao in Manipur’s Imphal East District, according to official sources.
The Union minister Naik who was here to attend the inaugural function of four-day Arogya Fair, 2018 in Imphal on Thursday also informed that the Central Government had approved providing support in setting up of four 50-bed hospitals in Manipur.
The four-day fair is organised to showcase revitalisation of traditional system of medicines (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy), market promotion and processing of medicinal and aromatic plants, income generation and scientific approaches.
Informing that the Union Ministry of AYUSH has been promoting AYUSH system of health care in the country as well in the State, minister Naik said that AYUSH doctors and facilities are being provided in Public Health Centres and Community Health Centres and District Hospitals of all the States under the National AYUSH Mission.
Interestingly one 10-bedded Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital had been inaugurated at Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai in Imphal West District.
The visiting minister also urged the people of the State to plant medicinal plants instead of poppy and cannabis. Stating that Manipur has rich resources of medicinal plants, he said his Ministry is ready to extend all possible support regarding large scale plantation of medicinal plants.
On the other hand Chief Minister N Biren Singh who inaugurated the Fair, informed that the State Government was targeting with a firm effort to hand over the Ayush Hospital being constructed at Keirao in Imphal East by February next year. He said that he had discussed with the visiting Union Minister about providing an alternative livelihood through plantation of medicinal plants to the villagers, who are planting poppy and cannabis.
He informed that a team of Japanese corporate executives called on him yesterday and sought nursing manpower to work in different hospitals of their country.
