In the aftermath of the publication of the first draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, the neighbouring states of the north-eastern region have pulled up their socks for any eventuality as far as influx of illegal migrants are concerned.

The Arunachal Pradesh Government has taken all possible preventive measures to prevent a possible spill-over of illegal migrants to the State, following publication of first draft of the NRC in Assam.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu had an emergent meeting with the State Director General of Police (DGP) late Thursday and sought information on the status of border areas in the aftermath of the NRC effect in neighbouring state of Assam. Khandu also directed the DGP to keep strict vigil along the border outposts to check entrance of illegal immigrants.

Assuring that the situation is normal in the state, the Arunachal DGP apprised Chief Minister Khandu that all border district SPs have been alerted and directed to liaise with their Assam counterparts. He said the situation is under control in Assam and there is no problem on NRC issue in general especially in Arunachal districts sharing borders with Assam.

The Arunachal Government is also in close touch with its counterpart in Assam to maintain peace and harmony in the State.

The Manipur Government has also taken up slew of measures to prevent any possible spill-over of illegal migrants into the State in view of the publication of the first draft of the NRC in Assam.

Special teams, led by officers of the rank of Assistant Commandant or Additional Senior SPs, have been deployed at vulnerable places like Jiribam, Babupara Bazar and along the Barak River bordering Mizoram, the Manipur Police said in a statement on Thursday.

Special police teams have also been deployed at Mao Gate in Senapati district bordering Nagaland and the Tamei- Haflong road in Tamenglong district bordering Assam to check the entry of migrants into the State, the release further stated.
