Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday said that Arunachal’s tourism success story requires significant participation from the local communities.

“Local communities must ensure peace, favourable atmosphere for tourists, maintain cleanliness and preserve culture for tourism to thrive in Arunachal,” said Chief Minister Khandu, who was at the Mandala top (3204 m) in Dirang to attend the consecration of ‘108 Mane’ by His Eminence Guru Tulku Rinpoche.

Dirang is a small town in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. It is located about 43 km from Bomdila on the way to Tawang.

Khandu in his speech said the ‘108 Mane’ is first of its kind in India where the mantra ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ is inscribed in 108 pillars constructed as 5 concentric circles with a Stupa in the centre.

He said, “According to Buddhism, chanting of ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ for 108 times or more helps your entire body, heart and mind to come into deep contemplation, revealing the innate wisdom for tolerance that eliminates anger, greed, delusion and all evil thoughts.”

Assuring to help for filling the gap of all missing infrastructure for the sacred site, Khandu promised to fund for electrification this year informing that the work for water supply has been completed.

He said the site would not only attract huge religious pilgrims but other tourists as well.

The CM also urged the locals to preserve forest and wildlife and said that besides ‘108 Mane’ being an important religious site, the Mandala top is also known for his diverse wildlife habitats.

He appreciated the WWF for their work through Community Conserved Area (CCA) projects in preserving the forests and promised to help if they require any Government intervention.

Chief Minister Khandu on the day also inaugurated the new office building of the Monpa Mimang Tshokpa (MMT) in Dirang.

Khandu congratulated the MMT, the apex body of the Monpa community of Arunachal for the new building and urged the organization to work for societal uplift and for harmony among different communities.

Underscoring the importance of apex community organisations in Arunachal, the CM said such organisations helps bridge the differences among different communities and build peace in the State.

He also said the apex bodies has important role in preservation of culture and tradition of the community.

Khandu requested the business community and the local leaders for their contribution in construction of office building of MMT at Tawang and Kalaktang also.

Among others, advisor to Chief Minister Japu Deru, Seppa West MLA Mama Natung and Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering, MMT President Rinchin Dorjee and Department of Karmik and Adhyatmik Affairs chairman Jambey Wangdi were also present on the occasion.
