Traffic police and law enforcing officials of the Transport Department of Assam every now and then impose penalty or take lawful action against violations of traffic rules on the streets.
However, these seems to have little or no impact on traffic violators, especially young drivers with two-wheelers resulting in growing incidents of motorbike accidents in greater Mangaldai in recent times.
With a view to create awareness about traffic rules, the management of a local private educational institution, Glorious Public School, with support from the Darrang district police administration has taken up an unique effort of addressing the issue in an emotional manner.
Every motorbike riders driving on the Mangaldai -Bhutiachang connecting PWD road without a helmet had a unique experience or rather embarrassment on Wednesday. Instead of paying any penalty or any legal action for violation of traffic rules, each one of them were received with a flower sapling and a sweet along with a request to wear a helmet, limit the speed, avoid liquor and obey other traffic rules.
Nearly two hundred such motorbike drivers were taught a lesson on traffic rules the sweet way by a group of around fifty class III kids of Glorious Public School in front of their school at Karimchowk in Mangaldai much to the amusement of every passer-by along the street.
The kids guided by their young school director Mizanur Rahman and head mistress Bandana Sarma Bordoloi also displayed placards with several road safety awareness slogans like ‘Always wear a helmet’, ‘Remember your child like us when you cross the speed limit’, ‘Divorce drinking while driving’, ‘Live and let us live’ and the likes.
The kids in their more than an hour priceless service to the nation was effectively encouraged by senior officials of Darrang police including Superintendent of Police, Sreejith Thiraviam and ASP (HQ) Satyajit Nath among others.
Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das who was also present inspired the young children and lauded the school authority for their noble social commitment.
