Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has released an amount of Rs 2 lakh from the National Welfare Fund of Sportsperson to national level archer Gohela Boro. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Union Sports Minister on Monday, announced that Gohela Boro’s medical expenses would be borne by the ministry.
She has been suffering from a degenerative disease called Systematic Lupsus Erythematosus (SLE) and Anti Nautrophil Cytoplasmic (ANCA), a rare autoimmune disease, due to which her fingers and toes have started decaying. She was diagnosed with the disease in 2016.
Before the diagnosis, she has won around 72 medals, which includes 34 golds at national, state and district level. Since then she has been fighting a tough battle.
While the government had funded her treatment in the initial stage, she could not afford her medicines due to her humble background.
This resulted in her medical condition getting worse. Following the archer’s bed-ridden photos circulated on the social media, the government has finally decided to release funds to aid the 21-year old’s medical treatment.
