Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) took out a torchlight rally demanding introduction of ‘Inner Line Permit’ systems in Assam on Thursday evening.
The AJYCP members with various local community organizations took out the procession at 12 different locations including Gogamukh, Bordoloni, Dhemaji, Moridhal, Silapthar and Jonai under the district.
The protester took out a long rally along the National Highway 15 and rural roads and shouted slogans against the state and central government for supporting Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to grant citizenship to Bangladeshi nationals in Assam.
The AJYCP members shouted slogans against chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other ministers for their inaction in this regard.
AJYCP district general secretary Bishnu Sarma in a press statement said his union has been demanding the governments to introduce ‘Dual Citizenship’ and ‘Inner Line Permit (ILP)’ systems in Assam for last two decades, but the successive governments are maintaining an irresponsive attitude.
“There is no alternative other than introduction of ILP system for identification of the outsiders besides prevention of settlement of dubious citizens in the state. The identity of the indigenous people of the state would be at risk if the ILP system is not implemented”, Sarma said while adding that Assamese people will face a situation as the Tripuris have faced in Tripura soon if the ILP system is not implemented.
Earlier on August 20 this year, the AJYCP staged state-wide sit-in demonstrations demanding introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state. The union demanded the BJP-led central government to implement the Inner Line Permit system in Assam for the greater interest of the indigenous people of the state.
Meanwhile, Dhemaji District Committee of AJYCP organized a series of seminars on ‘Introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) at different places of the district and mobilized the local people about importance of ILP system in Assam.
