The Assam government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) North East Region signed a Memorandum of Association (MoA) on Monday.
The MoA was signed for renovating the stretch of road connecting VIP Chowk near the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and the Kahikuchi market.
The 1,100 metre stretch of road will be restored as a part of AAI’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme which is the first phase of the massive project of AAI and state government.
The cost of the first phase of the project estimated to be Rs 45 lakh will help in smooth movement of heavy traffic and benefit tourists coming from the airport, reports The Assam Tribune .
In the second phase of the project, the 2500 metre stretch of road from VIP Chowk to Azara will be renovated at a cost of Rs 47 lakh.
The programme was attended by Ramendra Narayan Kalita, MLA of Guwahati West constituency, AAI North Eastern Region’s regional executive director DK Kamra , Bijoya Choudhury, district development commissioner, Kamrup (Metro), and senior officials of the AAI.
