In an apparent dig at the pro-talk ULFA leader Mrinal Hazarika, controversial BJP legislator from Hojai Shiladitya Dev on Sunday said surrendered militants should stay in designated camps instead of appearing on TV talk shows and addressing public rally openly.
Speaking to the media in Dhubri, Dev said “When militants surrender, they stay in designated camps. I have never seen militants appear on TV talk shows or heard them addressing public rally openly. But recently I have seen them appearing on television or giving statements to the media to instigate the people.”
Since they have surrendered for peace they should refrain from making statement inciting the people, Dev said.
“If they have come for peace talks, they should speak peacefully and within the limits of the Constitution,” he said, without naming anyone.
Earlier, pro-talk ULFA member Mrinal Hazarika has threatened Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev, who has led some Bengali organizations planning to hold a mass gathering in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, saying he must face the ‘consequence for his misdeeds’.
Hazarika also said, “The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill must be stopped from being passed (in the Parliament) at any cost. If this does not happen we must go back to the days of 1983. If needed, they (Bengali speaking people) must face massacre like incidents and thrown out from the state.”
