In a shocking incident, miscreants assaulted the Deputy Collector and Magistrate (DCM) of North District Joydeep Debbarma at Kanchanpur on Thursday night.

According to the sources, two miscreants broke open the doors of the room at around 2.30 am Thursday night while Joydeep Debbarma was sleeping. The DCM somehow managed to escape from the spot and took shelter in a safe place and later informed the police.

BDO of Laljuri R D Block Jogeshwar Reang who stays adjacent quarter rushed to the spot to rescue the DCM. However, he was also injured during the clash.

The miscreants are Lincon Reang, son of Rajesh Reang and Phanindra Reang, son of Kamal Reang. They are the residents of Uricherra village under Kanchanpur Police Station. SDM Abhedananda Baidya said the accused persons assaulted the DCM on the basis of a false report that suggested the DCM had beaten their brother.

Meanwhile, parents of the accused begged apology to the DCM and the SDM to forgive their sons.

Debbarma filed an FIR at Kanchanpur Police Station (no 70/2018 457/427/332/353/34 IPC) demanding police vigil in the quarter to avoid untoward incident.

Tripura Civil Service Officers ‘Association has condemned the attack and demanded stern action against the miscreants.
