A devastating fire ravaged shops and pharmacy at Bajali on Friday night damaging properties worth lakhs of rupees. The fire first broke out in a tea stall following a cylinder explosion at Kharadhara under Patacharkuchi PS in Bajali subdivison of Barpeta district.

Within few hours the blazing inferno gutted a pharmacy besides other shops. As the news of fire spread, local shopkeepers rushed to the site to save their properties.

According to the local people of the area, the fire occurred due to a cylinder explosion in a tea stall. Biren Kalita OC of Patacharkuchi police station came to the spot. Fire tenders from different places of Pathsala, Howly, Tihu rushed to the spot and then only the fire was brought under control and stopped the blaze from spreading.

While speaking to NE NOW, the local people of the area alleged that due to pathetic conditions of the road, fire tenders couldn’t reach on time and the fire thus spread within a few minutes and gutted properties worth lakhs of rupees. Later, they requested the MLA of Patacharkuchi constituency Pabindra Deka to take necessary steps to repair the roads in the greater interest of the people.
